Hello everyone, hope you’re having a good time on the internet these days.
First off, enjoy the below song + lyric video. “Horse Race,” by a dear friend, Cameron McGill. It’s the first single release from his forthcoming 7th album, “The Widow Cameron”.
My son, Otis, and I collaborated to create/produce the video— which stems off from working on the album’s artwork, too.
Working with my son in any artistic manner is not a plan; it’s improv, a random survival moment in which I need to get something else done while he draws, paints, sings, whatever he pleases!
Achieving creative happiness is simple for him.
Adulthood and responsibilities tends to kill creative energy— I protect the inner child best I can but I gotta admit: It’s getting tougher with age to deflect the dull, soul-sucking-financially-disabling responsibilities of adulthood.
If you have good health, time, and energy on your hands, savor it.
Otis’s paintings also plays a big role with the album’s cover art. I’ll share more on that end of the art direction process later this summer while/after Cameron rolls out new album news in the coming weeks. (There is a peek of the album cover during the end of the “Horse Race” video: )
For the video—due to timing on Cam’s end and mine—the focus was solely on it being a lyrics-only video. Lyric videos tend to be stagnant releases. I wanted to avoid it being a standard form of stagnant. Hence, motion graphics and paintings which tie into the overall experience of the forthcoming album. Nothing complicated, subtle effects, nothing too easy. Editing is a tedious-but-fun affair when timing hand-written words to music.
That’s about all of the words I have left in me to share for today, folks.
This post is public so that sharing is allowed, and for strangers to discover Cam’s music.
